The Barlow Family: June 2012

Here are some more highlights of Nefin's first month with us. We have started to get into a routine and manage to get out most days, whether it be for a playdate with one of our many friends who have babies or just for a nice walk to East Coast Park. Nefin's favourite toy at the moment, well he has a few. One is the dinosaur that I make roar everytime he cries for no reason. That usually stops him. He also likes his playmats and chair. He's not quite figured out how to grab anything other than my hair or his daddy's chest hair but I'm sure that will come.

Little Nefster is a pretty chilled out baby, or so says our friends. I don't know as I've never had a baby! He's super cute and cuddly in the morning and rarely cries. Sometimes he gets a bit teary in the afternoon, but that's usually because I've accidentally let him sit in his poop. Speaking of poop, he is definitely a routined baby in that every morning when i put him in his little chair and take him into the bathroom with me while I have a shower, he poops! The first time it happened I could hear him grunting while I was in the shower, and he's done it every day since! Definitely takes after Gareth :)

I hate to say this as I'm worried that it will change, but we've been pretty lucky when it comes to nights. In the whole 5 weeks we've had Nef, there has only been one night where he cried, and that was because I hadn't fed him enough. He definitely knows his nights from days and usually feeds at ~11 pm and then sleeps until ~3 am when he wakes for a feed. Then he settles back to bed until about 630 or 7. I usually sneakily have to change his bum once in the night but I can usually manage to do it without waking him.

Nefin is on the verge of smiling when Gareth or I make goofy faces or noises. I can see the smile in his eyes :) I'm known as the 'fun police' so I'm sure Gareth will get him to smile first. I got the first hug though :)

Nefin's got the strongest head/neck of any baby I have ever known. Almost from day one he could bop his head around. Now he can virtually hold it up without assistance. He had a Dr's appt with a new pediatrician this week and all looks well. I didn't realize he was at the 95th percentile for height!

Overall it's been a great month, some ups and downs mainly due to our breastfeeding issues which we've unfortunately had to stop. However now I have a nice, happy baby who I can cuddle without being in pain :)
